Property Licensing
The
Property, Stock and Business Agents Act 2002 (the Act), regulates the
licensing of people working within the property and real estate
industries. There are six distinct licence categories in NSW:
In
addition to NSW Property Licence qualifications, the Australian College
of Professionals is approved to conduct the prescribed Estate Agent course
for Victoria as well as the Real Estate Licence qualifications for Qld
and the ACT.
For
each of
the categories of
licence above, you must successfully complete the relevant Certificate
IV in Property Services level qualification which covers the
competencies required by NSW Fair Trading to grant your licence in that
category.
Government
Funded Training:
Government
Funding is available for these courses for eligible employees under our

Other
Property Licenses
Other types of license qualifications offered by the College include:
This
licence is
an alternative to general real estate sales and looks at working solely
for the purchaser and acting on their behalf throughout the sales
process.
People who have completed the qualifications for this licence
will be eligible for some exemptions towards the the Real Estate
Licence qualification.
This
licence involves the purchase of management rights. You must
be
nominated on the Contract of Sale for one of the lots in the complex,
as either an individual or as a Director of a Company who is purchasing
the overall management rights. You must also live on-site to
be
eligible to apply for an On-Site Residential Property Managers licence.
This licence enables the licence holder to carry on business as an
agent for:
- giving
possession of residential premises under a lease, licence or other
contract or arrangement, or
- collecting
bonds, deposits, rents, fees or other charges in connection with any
such lease, licence or other contract or arrangement. (Section 3 of the
Property, Stock and Business Agents Act 2002).
Licence Eligibility
In
addition to the required qualifications, NSW Fair Trading has
additional eligibility requirements before granting a licence and
applicants must
satisfy the Commissioner for Fair Trading that he/she is:
- At least 18 years of age
- A fit and proper person to hold
a
licence. Any person in partnership with a licensee in a property agency
must also be a fit and proper person
- Has the required competencies for
the
licence
- Is not a disqualified person
- Has paid the relevant contribution
to the
Property Services Compensation Fund
Recognition
of Prior Learning (RPL)
You
may be assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition
of Current Competence (RCC) for one or more modules based on your
skills and work experience. This means
that you will not need to attend training for that module.
Assessment is undertaken on an individual basis and determination of
RPL or RCC is based on the evidence of your previous experience and
learning.
Existing property agents who
have 2 years or more of sales experience, may be eligible for our 5 day
Fast Track Licence program. Please contact

After
successfully completing either the Business Broking, Strata or
Stock & Station qualification, candidates may undertake an
upgraded
qualification in:
If
you currently hold a Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate)
and are able to supply us with a copy of your transcript, or you have a
current NSW Real Estate Licence, you will be given Recognition of Prior
Learning (RPL) for eighteen (18) of the twenty-six (26) competencies
required to obtain the Diploma level qualification.
